Proper 8 (Fourth Sunday after Trinity)

Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Listen now to this word that I speak in your hearing
and in the hearing of all the people.
The prophets who preceded us
prophesied war, famine, and pestilence.
As for the prophet who prophesies peace,
when the word of that prophet comes true,
then it will be known that the Lord has truly sent him/her.

(Jeremiah 28:7-9, NRSV, alt.)

Invitatory

Happy are those who know the festal shout,
who walk, O Lord, in the light of your countenance;
they exult in your name all day long,
and extol your righteousness.
For you are the glory of their strength;
by your favour our horn is exalted.
For our shield belongs to the Lord, our king,
to the Holy One of Israel.

(Psalm 89:15-18, NRSV, alt.)

Cruciform

Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet
will receive a prophet’s reward;
whoever welcomes the righteous in the name of the righteous
will receive the reward of the righteous;
and whoever gives water to the least of these
none will lose their reward.”

(Matthew 10:41-42, NRSV, alt.)

Weeks

Whoever welcomes you welcomes me,
and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.

(Matthew 10:40, NRSV.)

Dimissory

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever.  Amen.
