5th of Lent: Passiontide Begins

Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
— from BCP1979

Invitatory

Have mercy on me, God, according to your loving kindness.
By your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.
Wash me from my iniquity.
Cleanse me from my sin.
 For I know my transgressions.
My sin is constantly before me.
Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts.
You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean.
Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
— Psalm 51:1-3, 6-7†

Cruciform

“Behold, the days will come,” says the Lord,
“that I will make a new covenant.
I will put my law in your inward parts,
and I will write it in your heart.
I will be your God,
and you shall be my people.”
— Jeremiah 31:31, 33†

Weeks

If anyone serves me, let him follow me.
Where I am, there will my servant be too.
If anyone serves me,
the Father will honour him.
— John 12:26†

Following the seventh bead:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Dimissory

Let me hear joy and gladness,
that the bones which you have broken may rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all of my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation.
Uphold me with a willing spirit.
— Psalm 51:8-12†

If a priest is present, s/he may offer the absolution. If not, the lay leader may pray for forgiveness using the words in parentheses.

(May) Almighty God have mercy on you (us), forgive you (us) all your (our) sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you (us) in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you (us) in eternal life. Amen.
— from BCP1979
